DON’T BITE MY STYLE: The Balmain Mini

Alessandra Ambrosio, Zoe Saldana, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry- via Celebuzz.com

DAMN this dress! That’s the problem with hot dresses, you fall in love with one the first time you see it, and then you keep seeing it on red carpets and start having Hot Dress Deja Vu, and then the wrong person wears it and your love affair tragically ends. Mine ended today when I saw Kim K wearing it -___- I don’t even mind her fashion sense most of the time, but seeing as how she’s the 80th “celeb” (I use that term loosely) to wear it, and not even that well, I don’t fully approve. Kim is thick and petite…the dress’s proportions aren’t right for her. And why is she wearing those booties? Grrr.

I love Katy Perry’s look the most. Something about the blue hair adding a pop of color prevents everything from looking too gladiator-like (ahem, Zoe). Plus, the cleavage area is tastefully done (Alessandra…) and she’s showing off some killer legs in the right shoes. Well done, KP. I approve!

Style Tip: How to Rock a Varsity/Letterman/Baseball Jacket in 6 Ways

Forever21 (middle) Chloe (right)

I’ve been iffy about this trend. I like the look of baseball jackets, but I just don’t want to look like a high schooler….

Too casual. Too high school.

…or like I’m actually on the baseball team. But I think I figured out the trick. A few tricks, actually.

1) Get a plain jacket. The ones with letters really look like high school varsity jackets…which is OK if you wanna go toward the nostalgia path. But I don’t.

2) Veer towards an ultra-feminine or rocker/edgy look. If you go for super casual, preppy, or sporty, you are gonna look a little juvenile, in my opinion. The jacket already adds some a tomboy-sporty edge to your outfit, so going sporty or casual will look like a costume. Accessorize with ONE of the following: some motorcycle boots; some leather pants; a pretty, flowy dress; or a dressy blouse with jeans and heels.

3) Crop it. Even though I like the baggy look, a cropped jacket is still a little loose but offers more structure and neatness.

4) If you’re in college, get it in your school colors. I’m not even sure if college teams wear these (probably). Either way, you can at least wear it to your school’s sporting events and show some spirit while being stylish with yo trendy self.

Go Heels!!

5) Go for the cardigan instead. Ditch the jacket all together and wear a varsity cardigan. Relatively same effect, and you can even cinch it with a skinny belt if you so desire.

6) Get it in a funky design, so that instead of a letter you have some cool, quirky icon or design in the corner. I have yet to see one for sale in any of the popular retail stores. I just found these through Google images, but I bet vintage shops will have some neat ones.

Those are my possible solutions. At the end of the day I don’t want one that badly, but I do like the trend of oversized/menswear-influenced clothes (boyfriend blazer, boyfriend jeans, oxfords, etc). So it could happen in the future. It’s most likely just a trend for this season, though. Will you rock one?

Cooler Weather is No Sweat in a SWEATER

The weather probably doesn’t feel like fall in most places, but fashion doesn’t care. The September issues of magazines are out, stores are selling fall clothes, and if you are a little fashion crazy (or just crazy) like me, you’ve known about the fall trends since they debuted on runways in February/March and have been impatiently waiting to try them out!

So you can prep for fall now with SWEATERS! Knit sweaters especially

Even the trees in NYC are excited (only in NYC)…

For once, Bill Cosby can be a trendsetter to the masses. Heh

Also, shout out to Biggie Smalls for rocking the Coogi sweater, and those that still do. He showed us how to Rock Dat Coogi in the first place.

Skinny was SO last year

And I’m glad because seriously my legs just could not take it.

Skinny jeans became the trend of the year (the past couple of years) prompting girls (and some guys) everywhere to be proud of their chicken legs, or their tree-trunk thighs, and their knobby knees.

Only problem – like all trends, they aren’t for everybody. You have to be honest with yourself here, because I’m being honest with you and you know I’m telling the truth—skinny jeans flatter about….2.2% of the world population. And not ALL skinny girls could get away with it either…ahem Kate Middleton.

She's so pretty, but skinny jeans just ain't for her

There is some sort of leg formula that combines the perfect width of thigh with length of leg with shape of leg muscles in proportion to the rest of your body, and only 2.2% of the population has that. Yet EVERYONE was wearing them. Which was fine—that is fashion. MY problem was these:

Jeggings. Good gracious.

Also, this. How do you SAG skinny jeans?

Oh, guess they just showed me how.

Luckily for EVERYone, skinny jeans (except for a few colors like acid wash/bleach and red…) are OUT, and so are all of its spawns (looking at you, jeggings). Now it’s all about 70s inspired wide legged and flared pants!

I’m still iffy on flares, because those can grip and choke your thighs just like skinny jeans. But the wide-legs?…WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE

I know, I know, classic bathroom pic

I love these (Forever 21!)

So now, I can go back to wearing a size 7/9, instead of a 13/15 which is what I had to do with skinny jeans -_- I won’t even go into the logistics of that one.

And hopefully, the only place I will ever see skinny jeans are on old album/single covers. And by that I mean Michael Jackson covers ONLY.

Kelly Rowland > Beyonce

Yes. Finally. I’ll admit it! Kelly Rowland is kicking Beyonce’s uh-oh-uh-oh-uh-oh-ohnonono butt right now. Especially with Beyonce’s album getting delayed, and her trying to get her back-up singers (aka Kelly and Michelle) for a reunion.

For some reason I have been all over K. Row songs this month, especially this one produced by Alex Gaudino, What a Feeling. Very Whitney in the 80s.

So this was really just an excuse for me to post some 80s inspired outfits and pieces. Word!

You probably know many fashionable celebrities who are also moms. But do you know about the trendy moms of these celebrities? In honor of Mother’s Day, here are some celebrities’ moms who have awesome style.

——-

Diddy’s mother Janice Combs. If you have ever seen other pictures of her, she usually looks like Lil Kim’s unsuccessful clone, but she looks tres chic here, no?

——-

Kris Jenner aka the Kardashian Mom. At Khloe & Lamar’s fragrance launch for Unbreakable. Sharp!

——-

Tish Cyrus, Miley Cyrus’ mom, at the Academy Awards. The classiest I’ve ever seen her. Or Miley for that matter.

——-

Ms. Tina Knowles, Beyonce’s mother. Though, since she divorced Bey’s dad, she might go back to her maiden name, which is actually Beyonce…fun fact!

——-

Jonetta Patton, Usher’s mom

——-

Helen Williams, Vanessa Williams’ mother.

——-

Pattie Mallette, Justin Bieber’s mom….I’m not sure how I was expecting her to dress, but I know that I am pleasantly surprised.
